Retirement Fund Options Update
I recently attended a retirement session that was put on by the Department of Employee Trust Funds (ETF) / Wisconsin Retirement System (WRS), where discussed was the option for active employees to have his/her funds removed from the Variable Fund and placed in the Core Fund. Currently contributions made to the WRS are either invested in the Core Fund or evenly split between the Core Fund and the Variable Fund.
For those active employees whose contributions are split between the Core Fund and the Variable Fund and wish to make a change to their Variable Fund; the following three options are available:
- Cancel participation for all future contributions made to the Variable Fund. All past contributions remain in the Variable Fund and continue to earn the Variable Fund rate interest.
- Cancel conditionally. Cancels all future contributions to the Variable Fund. Past contributions will be transferred when an active employee’s excess / deficiency either evens out or is in the positive. For more information about what the excess / deficiency is please view the ETF website at http://etf.wi.gov.
- Cancel unconditionally. Cancels all future contributions to the Variable Fund and transfers past Variable contributions to the Core Fund.
I recommend any active employee who wishes to make a change to their Variable Fund view the provided information on the ETF website at http://etfmedia.wi.gov/main/Viewer/?peid=a76783baf8644a71b2d0105369411ae1.
If an active member wishes to make a change to his / her Variable Fund the ETF link on how to make this change is http://etf.wi.gov/publications/et2313.pdf.
