MPPOA Board

Below is the list of your current union board. I have tried to list some of their many qualifications for those of you who do not know them that well. It has been suggested that I cut out some of the “quotes” but I think that if I am called into someone’s office to explain myself and I feel that I need a union rep, I’d like to know that person sitting next to me. Get to know your board if you don’t already, they will work hard for you.

President: Dan Frei
Member of MPD for 12 years, board member for 8 years, have served as VP, and Secretary. Founding member of current MPD Honor Guard and current member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) as a negotiator. Currently assigned 3rd shift patrol, North district.

Vice President: Sgt Dave McClurg
Member of MPD for 17 years. MPPOA board member for 13 years, have served as Secretary and VP. Dave is a team leader for the MPD Emergency Response Team (ERT) and is an excellent resource for tactics. Dave also takes the lead on discipline and grievance issues. Currently assigned to the South community police team working primarily 2p-10p.

Treasurer: Steve Heimsness
Member of MPD for 11 years, board member for 8 years, and have served as secretary and treasurer. Currently assigned to 3 shift patrol, Central district. Steve’s quote: “I like fast cars and fast women. That’s why the guys in my car club call me “the cruiser” “.

Secretary: Scott McConnell
Member of MPD for 20 years, board member for 7 years. Founding member of current MPD Honor Guard and current member of the ERT team. Scott is an excellent resource for tactics. Currently assigned to the dayshift patrol, Central district. Scott’s quote: “I like to hunt....dogs good...cats bad”.

PAC Chair: Sgt Dave Samson
Member of MPD for 9.5 years, board member for 2 years, have served as PAC chair for 1.5 years. Dave is a team leader for the ERT team and is an excellent resource for tactics. Currently assigned to 2nd shift patrol, North district.

Social Chair: Sgt Steve Beavers
Member of MPD for 17 years, board member for 4 years off and on. Steve is currently the Chairperson of our social committee. As such he is responsible for coordinating the two major social events, the Copper Ball and the picnic, that the union puts on. Steve is also frequently one of the master’s of ceremony at the Copper Ball and is known for his humor. Steve’s quote: “Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go thru life, son”. Steve is currently assigned as a dayshift Sgt in the East district.

Board Member: Sgt Amy Schwartz
Member of MPD for 14.5 years, board member for 2 years. Amy currently runs our clothing sales, the proceeds of which all go to charity, and handles issues related to donation of time for sick leave. Currently assigned to the Criminal Intelligence section, dayshift, Central district.

Board Member: Jason Freedman
Member of MPD for 11 years, board member for 3 years. Jason is a former member of the MPD training team and ERT team and is an excellent resource for DAAT, and tactics. Currently assigned to the North community police team working primarily 2nd shift 2p-10p. Jason’s operating philosophy: consistency, accountability, and transparency.

Board Member: Detective Brian Austin
Member of MPD for 12 years, first year as a board member. Brian has a Law degree and was a member of MPD training team. He is a current member of ERT, and is an excellent resource for DAAT, tactics and legal issues. Currently assigned to the Criminal Intake Unit, 6:30a-2:30p, Central district.

Board Member: Linda Baehmann
Member of MPD for 14.5 years, first year as a board member. Founding member of current MPD Honor Guard and former member of the ERT team. Linda has been assigned to the MPD training team for 7 years and is an excellent resource for all issues. Linda currently works primarily Mon-Fri 8a-4p.
